  1. I was at this one. Earlier the same night the Cure played UNO lakefront arena. Robert Smith turned up to watch Ride looking like a sweaty hair mess in the 90 degree heat of Tipitinas

    • Wow… So for one night, mopey Brits took NOLA back almost two centuries after the Battle Of New Orleans.
How were Pale Saints? In Ribbons has several of the most stunning songs ever made. I had no idea they ever played in NOLA until just now. I know Cranes opened for the Cure on this tour. They played at one of the Oak Street clubs in early ‘95 w/ the great Idaho opening.

  2. According to the tape posted at https://youtu.be/eSN5TxDf_J4 the final two songs, “TOHT” & lastly “Seagull,” are different from the setlist here. It was broadcast live on New Orleans college radio station WTUL (named America’s best college station in ‘96), so it’s definitely from the correct (June 8, 1992) show. As far as I remember, WTUL only broadcast shows in its TULbox series from this one venue, so it’s guaranteed to be from Tipitina’s. And that was evidently the only time Ride ever played in Louisiana.
One of the station’s head honcho DJs, Hunter King (who does the surf rock show), left a comment under the vid about a better copy he has.

Insanely jealous of anyone who saw this. I was surprised they didn’t do “Drive Blind,” as I was under the impression that was their most iconic song in those early years, at least pre-“Vapour Trail.” Did they always play such long renditions of “Nowhere” back then, à la MBV’s famously noisy extended live versions of “You Made Me Realise”? And to see Pale Saints touring their brilliant In Ribbons LP… Wow. I’ve been listening to “Liquid” & “Featherframe” constantly since buying it in ‘02 (on the same memorable night I bought …Trail Of Dead’s equally brilliant-in-a-different-way new LP).

I wonder if the Cure’s opening act, Cranes, also showed up at this gig…
