Mailing List – News update – February 2003

Below is an email sent out to all subscribers of the band’s mailing list in the winter of 2003 with various updates about the band.

various bits of news

hello all
lots of bits of news (i’ll try to be brief)

the official website address has been nabbed by someone else and Ignition
Records are currently trying to wrestle it back. In the meantime we’ve moved
the site over to www.rideox4.net or www.rideox4.co.uk. I know that the site
is desperately in need of an update but please bear with us as things are
rather busy at the moment.

The tracklisting has been agreed and we’re in the process of sorting out the
licence from the BBC and also getting the artwork and sleevenotes together.
With a burst of energy this should see the light of day early in the Summer.
It’ll be 17 tracks culled from the 5 main sessions that the band recorded
between 1990 and 1994 at the BBC studios in London and Manchester. If all
goes well then it should be properly available worldwide (unlike the Best Of
album which has been limited to the UK and North America plus any export
sales). By the way, the Box Set has been re-pressed once again as it seems
that demand is continuing to out-strip everyone’s expectations – very

The single album Best Of (with a four track bonus disc) has been picking up
lots of nice press and radio support in the US. So much so that Mark is
going out to the States very soon to do some promotion and to play some
shows. The US release is on the mighty-fine First Time Records.

Yes really. Mark is going out to the States to play an acoustic tour
featuring about 70% Ride songs and 30% his new material. The first date is
at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas on 13th March and then he makes his
way around the country between the 1st and the 27th April. For a full list
of dates as they get confirmed then have a look at Piero’s Ticket To Ride
Mark Gardener microsite.
To warm up for the tour Mark is going to play a short(ish) set (about 30
minutes) at one of the regular Trailer Park nights run by Oxford’s Truck
Records. This show will be on Tuesday 4th March at the Cellar in the centre
of Oxford. You can get tickets in advance online at www.wegottickets.com.

As part of the build-up to the US tour Mark has contributed a track to an
MP3 compilation put together by www.excellentonline.com. Full details on
their site, of course.
