Two track single featuring remixes of tracks from RIDE's sixth album 'This Is Not A Safe Place. The remixes are by Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor) and Faders Down (Ride's own Loz Colbert). Tracks were released via the usual streaming and downloads sites only. No physical pressing available.
Sixth studio album by Ride, This Is Not A Safe Place was released on August 16th 2019. The press release states: Following the successful release and hectic touring schedule from ‘Weather Diaries’, the band gathered influences from sources such as the aforementioned Basquiat exhibition, and the post punk sound of The Fall and Sonic Youth, to make an album which contains echoes of their earliest days as a band, while bringing these elements into 2019. ‘This Is Not A Safe Place’ came together in a matter of weeks at the end of 2018, and start of 2019, the sound of a band embracing their new found creativity and rejuvenated dynamic. Their sixth record also sees Ride reunite with sound engineer Alan Moulder, who is on mixing duties for his fourth Ride record, following ‘Weather Diaries’, ‘Going Blank Again’ and their 1990 debut album ‘Nowhere’ (an album whose artwork is wonderfully echoed on the newly revealed cover of ‘This Is Not A Safe Place’). One of the leading lights of the early 90’s shoegaze scene, Ride reformed in 2014, releasing their first album in over 20 years in 2017. ‘Weather Diaries’was greeted by a raft of critical and commercial acclaim, reaching number 11 in the UK album charts. It also saw Ride reunited with Wichita Records’ Dick Green and Mark Bowen, who worked with the band during their early years on Creation Records. Inside of the gatefol sleeve Ride guitarist Andy Bell discovered the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat at the Barbican’s ‘Boom For Real’ exhibition in late 2017. In this episode (see video below) of Expert Voices, Andy and Ride bassist Steve Queralt talk about how Basquiat’s creative methods remind them of their own artistic process. Get a sneak preview of a track from the band’s new album as they explain how Basquiat’s use of symbols inspired song lyrics and led to the album title and art work. Second single from RIDE's sixth album 'This Is Not A Safe Place due for release on August 16th 2019. The press release states: "Ride are back with a brand new single, "Future Love", taken from their forthcoming new album, "This Is Not A Safe Place". " Andy Bell explains, ""Repetition" is at the absolute heart of This Is Not A Safe Place. It was one of the very first songs written for the album, and has always felt to me like one of the best songs I've written. It has a great dual harmony vocal from myself and Mark. Steve came up with the brilliant Juno 6 bassline that starts the song, which he overdubbed on our last day of recording for the album, Loz puts down a monster of a drum track, it's both very experimental and very pop in approach and that's what Ride always tried to do in the early days. For me it succeeds in bringing me back to all of the things we were into and talked about when we were 18, but also being of the moment, in 2019."

The album was mixed by Alan Moulder with Caesar Edmunds at Assault & Battery in London. Of this new single Andy Bell said, "Future Love is a song about the beginning of a relationship, when everything feels possible."

Fifth album released on 16th June 2017. The press release states: "Ride's first album in over twenty years, Weather Diaries, will be released June 16th via Wichita Recordings. The album was produced by legendary DJ, producer and remixer Erol Alkan, and is packed with all the classic elements that made Ride one of the defining bands of the early ‘90s. Trembling distortion, beautiful harmonies, pounding rhythms, shimmering soundscapes and great songwriting all combine to make an album that’s ambitious in scope, timeless and thoroughly addictive. The album will be released through Wichita Recordings and sees the band reunited with label co-founders Mark Bowen and Dick Green, who worked with Ride during the band’s early years on Creation Records. It also brings the band back together with mixer Alan Moulder (Arctic Monkeys, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers) who mixed their seminal 1990 album ‘Nowhere’ and produced it’s follow up ‘Going Blank Again’." All I Want remix by GLOK (Andy Bell) released as a single, originally appeared on US sites on 19th May. International release 25th May 2017. Download/streaming only.
Released just 24 hours after their previous single Charm Assault, 'Home Is A Feeling' is the second track released from their sessions with Erol Alkon. An album due in early Summer 2017. An alternative sleeve (see below) was added to download sites on 18th May 2017.
First new song released since 1996. Press statement states: ""Charm Assault" is taken from Ride's forthcoming album, due to be released Summer 2017 on Wichita Recordings. The album was produced by Erol Alkan and mixed by the band's longtime collaborator, Alan Moulder. Andy Bell says “Charm Assault is a pretty straightforward expression of frustration and disgust at the people who currently run our country. The tour in 2015 was a good way of reminding us what we were good at in the first place and Charm Assault feels like a natural continuation from our peak. When we started writing together again we tried to imagine we'd kept on making music all this time, and this was just the latest one.” An alternative sleeve (see below) was added to download sites on 18th May 2017.
To coincide with the 25th anniversary of Nowhere, Ride released a single featuring two new remixes of Vapour Trail by Robert Smith of The Cure. The single was released digitally with a Vapour Mix and a Trail Mix.
Seagull was featured on a compilation of tracks inspired by The Byrds given away free with the November issue of Uncut Magazine.

Soundcheck 1 Soundcheck 2 Performance CD single - no cat # design.tourist p + c 2002 Ride First new Ride material for 6 years Recorded 16/10/01 for the Channel 4 show 'Pioneers' (broadcast 5/12/01) 1000 copy only release, now sold out The band's 17/10/01 e-newsletter described the recording thus: "So yesterday at the John Henry rehearsal complex in North London, Andy, Mark, Steve and Loz all turned up, set-up, plugged-in and put together about an hour's worth of un-rehearsed sonic jamming to accompany the forthcoming series of Channel 4's Pioneers. The show is about the influence of Sonic Youth and is effectively "presented" by Andy and Mark. They talk about Sonic Youth's influence generally to 90's music and specifically the influence on the then-fledgling Ride. As part of the idea for the show, the producer had asked Mark and Andy to play 10-15 minutes of guitar-based feedback which they wanted to film and use as a backdrop to the programme. It was Andy's idea that if he and Mark were going to get together to talk about Sonic Youth's influence on Ride then any "performance" to accompany the programme should feature all 4 ex-Ride members. Mark flew in from France for the day, Andy delayed his return to Sweden after the Oasis tour for a day and both Loz and Steve managed to juggle their existing commitments to make way for the day's filming. Everyone arrived about 11 and everything was set-up and ready to roll about Midday. Once the TV people had sorted their sound and camera positions out, the band started to work on a loose jam that they'd put together on the spot. It was a simple recording - one stereo mic for the drums, one bass mic and one each for Andy's and Mark's guitars. No vocals. It was truly amazing how quickly the whole sound slotted into place, that old adage about riding a bicycle was never more appropriate. There was a break while the sound levels and the overall mix were checked: and also while the lighting team sorted out their part of the equation. After a spot of lunch the band started playing about 1:30 with the cameras and the tape rolling until it came to it's natural conclusion about 2:15. Mark and Andy then filmed the interview and they all packed up and went their separate ways - Mark and Andy off to Heathrow for their respective flights, Steve back to Oxford and Loz back across London. It was very strange to witnedd how natural the whole event was and also how enjoyable and inspirational it was too. They talked about whether to base the jam on perhaps Grasshopper or even the middle section of Drive Blind but in the end a completely new piece of music came out of the day. There will some snaps of the day and maybe some camcorder footage up on the Ride site in the next couple of weeks or so - don't touch that dial." The original CD sold out almost immediately. Image above was originally posted on the old rideox4.net official site
